Urizun is an Okinawan word that refers to the season between the lunar new year and the rainy season when temperatures are a comfortable 20 degrees, neither cold nor hot. A traditional Okinawan event held during this time is "Shimi" which is similar to Japanese Obon. Families gather in front of the family grave to honor their ancestors and offer food and drink to them. Afterwards, they sit around and enjoy a picnic. 【沖縄の名建築案内】 モダンなたたずまいが美しい。 県内最古の鉄筋コンクリート建造物 「大宜味村役場旧庁舎」 当ホテルから北上すること約40分。 大宜味村の役場前に佇むのは、旧庁舎。 1925年に建てられた、 現存する沖縄で最も古い鉄筋コンクリートの建築物です。 戦前から残っている数少ない建物のひとつで、 2017年に重要文化財に指定されました。 台風による風圧を軽減するため、 八角の平面形状を取り入れるなど、 沖縄ならではの作りが随所に見られます。 青空に映える白い外観は一見の価値あり。 ぜひ旅の途中に、足を伸ばしてはいかがでしょう？ A guide to Okinawa's famous architecture: The oldest reinforced concrete building in the prefecture, Ogimi Village Office Old Government Building, has a beautiful modern appearance. The old government building stands in front of the Ogimi village office about 40 minutes north of our hotel. Built in 1925, it is the oldest existing reinforced concrete building in Okinawa. It is one of the few buildings remaining from before the war and was designated as an important cultural property in 2017. Unique Okinawan features can be seen throughout the structure such as the use of an octagonal planar shape to reduce wind pressure from typhoons. The white exterior that contrasts with the blue sky is worth seeing. Take a little drive and stretch your legs!
